Historical Notes:
This etching is inspired by Rodin’s famous sculpture The Kiss ( 1880 – 1882 ) . However, Duchamp has displaced the hand of the man from the outer to the inner side of the woman’s thigh. “After all,” he commented with a smile, “that must have been Rodin’s original idea.
It is such a natural place for the hand to be.”
